FAQs

When is the best weather on the Central Coast?

The weather here is considered to be Mediterranean and is relatively mild all year long. It rarely gets over 80 in the summer and fall months and no less than 45 in the winter and spring (keep in mind these are Fahrenheit). Locals personal favorite season is late fall and early winter...beautiful warm, clear days abound.

What do I wear on my trips?

If you are kayaking...wear layers. If you are hiking...wear layers! The weather can change in a heartbeat and go from sunny and windless to foggy and blustery in a moments notice. Wear shoes that can get wet (because they absolutely will) on the kayak trips, and sensible hiking/walking shoes on your hiking trip. Wearing Jeans and nice street shoes on any of the trips is not recommended.

Can I bring small children on the trips?

It is not recommended on the hiking trips not unless they are small enough to be in a strap-on child carrier. Most kids by the time they are 8 are capable of doing all of our trips. Children of all ages, if they can sit on their own, are capable of joining in on the kayak adventures.

How difficult are the hikes?

Usually we offer a variety of experiences meant to be an interesting introduction to the region. Our hiking tours and most of the offerings are easy/moderate. If you chose to do a more challenging hike, just let us know what you envision and we'll make it happen!

Are there Sharks or other dangerous animals where we will be paddling?

The Morro Bay Estuary is one of the safest places you could paddle! None of the large predators come into the narrow and somewhat shallow area that encompasses the estuary. This lack of bitey-biteys is one reason why we have such diverse and abundant wildlife...no worries!

Can we cancel our trip without penalties?

If you cancel one week or more ahead of the trip date, you will receive a full refund; 7-3 days out, a refund minus a cancellation fee of $25 per person; 72 hours and less...no refund. If we cancel the trip because of very inclement weather the day of the trip, you will receive a refund minus the $25 per person cancellation fee. Your guide will always show up for the trip no matter the weather forecast, because the weather changes rapidly on the Central Coast.

Does bad weather cancel a trip?

It depends on what you call bad weather. If it is lightly drizzling and all other conditions are manageable, we will still do both hiking and kayaking trips. If, on the other hand it is really windy, the kayak trips will be canceled in deference to clients safety. It can get really rough on the water if the wind forecast is over 14 knots. If the kayakers are experienced and want a wild and woolly adventure, it is their choice to go out anyway.

Do you have any pre-scheduled group tours?

As a matter of fact we do! Our three specialty tours; Full Moon Magic, The Back Bay/Oyster Farm Experience and Low Tide Critters and Creatures are all pre-scheduled as they depend on very specific tide, weather and time parameters.

Call for a list of scheduled dates for any of these adventures. The Full Moon Magic tours always happen the day before the full moon so we can experience the sun setting and the moon rising in the sky simultaneously!

I have have food restrictions (ie; vegan, vegetarian, gluten sensitive and food allergies), can I still eat your gourmet lunch provided with the trip?

Of course you can, with the provision that you let us know before hand what those restrictions are. We can accommodate most restrictions and will provide a nutritious, varied meal option.
